Throughout his nearly 24 years as a psychiatrist, Dr. Sridhar Yaratha has treated patients dealing with substance abuse, addiction, and chronic mental illness. In addition to his broad range of treatment experience, Dr. Sridhar Yaratha has cared for patients across diverse populations.
Dr. Yaratha’s career began with the Vera French Community Mental Health Center in 2001, where he helped patients deal with substance abuse issues as a staff physician. This role also involved caring for patients in the adolescent unit. He began caring for geriatric patients in 2004, when the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute hired him. He has also provided psychiatric care for patients with chronic mental illness residing at Gateway Homes, beginning in 2009. In 2016, he became the director of inpatient psychiatry at the VA Medical Center, where he oversaw the coordination of care for veterans.
Dr. Yaratha utilizes mindfulness and exercise to treat depression and anxiety. His professional interests also include using holistic therapies to address mental illness. He is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Sridhar Yaratha also dedicates time to community organizations, such as the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Richmond Ballet. Some of his hobbies include playing and watching sports, listening to music, traveling, cooking, and enjoying fine cuisine. He currently resides in Richmond, Virginia.
